Where fonts for Instagram work: bio, name, captions, and not the username
Instagram has no font setting for text. What every "Instagram font generator" does, this one included, is swap your letters for Unicode characters that look like styled letters, mathematical bold and italic, script, Fraktur, double-struck, circled, small capitals, and the app renders them because they are ordinary text. That works in every field that takes free text: the bio (150 characters), the display name (the "Name" field), captions and comments (2,200 characters), story text, Notes, and messages. It does not work in the @username, which Instagram restricts to letters, digits, periods and underscores; paste a styled name there and the app refuses it. The table beside this paragraph says yes or no per field.
Two habits make styled text work better on Instagram. Style a line, not a paragraph: a bio headline or a name in bold or script reads well, a whole bio in Fraktur is hard to read and a screen reader spells it letter by letter. And keep anything searchable plain: Instagram search matches the plain letters in your name and bio, so a styled name is found by tapping, not by typing. The bio count under the preview shows the styled length, which is the same as the plain length for every style here except the ones that add marks.

Instagram bio fonts: aesthetic, cute, bold and cursive, and which to pick
The 32 styles fall into a few families and each suits a different bio. Bold and bold italic sans are the safe choice for a name or a headline: heavy, legible at the small size the bio is drawn, and rendered identically on iPhone and Android. Script and bold script are the cursive fonts for Instagram most people are looking for; they read well for a name and a one-line tagline, less well for a list. Small caps look typeset and stay readable in a full bio. Circled, squared and full-width letters are for a word or two of emphasis. Fraktur is the gothic one, and the decorated styles (sparkles, hearts, brackets) are the "aesthetic fonts" of the searches; they take more characters, so watch the count.
Every style here is checked against Instagram’s rendering, and the rare characters that show as a box on an old Android phone are marked on the specimens sheet. Fonts for Instagram stories, captions and highlights
Stories have their own text tool with a handful of typefaces, and those are real fonts drawn into the image; the Unicode styles here are a different thing and work alongside them, pasted into the story text box, a sticker, a poll question or a highlight name. Captions and comments accept every style, and so do the alt text and the caption’s hashtags, though a styled hashtag stops being a hashtag (the hashtag page explains why). How do I change the font in my Instagram bio?
Type your bio here, copy the style you like, open Instagram, Edit profile, and paste it into the Bio field. Instagram has no font setting; the copied text is Unicode characters that look like a font, and the app displays them as they are.
Why does the font not work in my Instagram username?
